Win 2008 Problems
Yes, I know its not supported, but I thought I'd post the problems we are having on Win2008 Webserer here anyhow, to see if anyone has any thoughts.

COD4 Servers themselves run ok, but all access to PBUCON appears dead.

PBBANS Live Streaming is not connecting, and Morkeye is failing to start.

RE: Win 2008 Problems
Thanks for the heads up...

Try running pbucon on its own using it's own diagnostic mode and see what errors/messages you get.

I have access to a 2008 Server virtual image... I will see if I can use it to run some tests.

RE: Win 2008 Problems
Yep... definitely a problem with Windows Server 2008 and pbucon... MORKEye runs fine but pbucon doesn't want to play..

And it just continues on like this... never correctly syncing with the server...

Any insight you find into this would be gratefully accepted Jim, as this also prevents PBBANS connecting to us as well. Sad

RE: Win 2008 Problems
Ok it would seem the problem may lie with MorkEye I guess, as PBBANS is now connecting to PBUCON just fine. They use a bit different method to connect though, so I wonder if thats the difference?

Heres how they do it.

pb_sv_uconignoreempty
pb_sv_usessionlimit 8
pb_sv_ucontimeout 90
pb_sv_uconempty
pb_sv_uconadd 1 xx.xx.xx.xx "pbbanshub" "pbbanshub"

And heres is the errors when MorkEye attempts to connect.

RE: Win 2008 Problems
I will do some more tests as it seems we are both seeing different problems...

RE: Win 2008 Problems
PBBans connect remotely to your PB session whereas MORKEye uses pbucon to connect locally which is maybe why PBBans works and MORKEye doesn't.

If you have a windows 2008 game server already you could try this on that server locally to see if it's pbucon or MORKEye that has an issue with Win2008...

Download this... ->pbucon<-
Extract the files to a temp directory.
Edit the server.ini as appropriate...

On the game server add the following line to it's pb setup.. making sure the details here match the server.ini file...

pb_sv_uconadd 1 127.0.0.1 "username" "password"

Now run pbucon with the following command line...

pbucon.exe ini=server.ini

If all goes well pbucon should connect and sync with your server almost straight away... and you should get something like...

PBUCON - PunkBuster UDP Console Applet v0.983
© Copyright 2006 by Even Balance, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Server Address: 202.136.100.198:28950
Resolving ...
Server IP: 202.136.100.198
Server Port: 28950
My Address: 127.0.0.1:8888
Login Name: username
**Console active. Client Challenge = 1d6978e6
**Press [Enter] to initiate challenge. "pbuconexit" exits.

....followed by the usual pbucon data...

The only tests I can run are within a VPC environment which presents it's own problems to MORKEye and doesn't give a true reflection of what would happen on a live server.

However ... here I have Windows Server 2008 running successfully in VPC with both MORKEye and pbucon...

RE: Win 2008 Problems
the 'WSAEADDRNOTAVAIL' error can occur when trying to send UDP packets (rcon uses UDP) to port 127.0.0.1 ( on Windows Server 2008) are you using this local loop address for either the game IP or your IP values...?? if so try changing them to the actual IP of the server.
